Shine!!!

Worked on a new page with one goal in mind- make sure i leave white space.  I love white space but lately before i know it the whole page is covered in color, its not a bad thing just a fact.  So that being said here we go
I started by stamping texture stamps randomly on the background with black archival ink.  Next apply a thin-ish coat of clear crackle, allow to dry overnight.  The crackle needs to completely dry before adding any color.

Next morning...
Add texture through a stencil with modeling paste- dry.

Now splatter on some color start with blue- spray with water really close to page to avoid color from splattering.  Move color around with heat gun and dry.  Repeat with next color.

Here you can see the crackle with color, the color really makes the crackle pop out.  Along the bottom right side you can also see the coral color without crackle underneath.  I like the variation between color on paper on color on crackle.  I also really love the variations of color you get from adding water, some areas are more diluted than others, plus drying with the heat gun causes darker edges- love it all.

Add pictures, frame with wire and make a wire path, add brads, buttons and photo tabs to hold wire in place.

Here I wrapped wire around a box and make a little collage with punch outs and brads.

Next around the photo paint a little alchemy black berry paint, while it is still wet spritz with water to get paint to move around and remove rough edges. Spraying the paint with water with also get the paint to settle into crackle.

You can also see I added some large buttons and a couple more die cuts.

Close up of painted photo edge, the extra color around photo helps make the photo pop out more.

Underneath the button is a cluster of fishing line painted black.

More fishing line painted black on top of this button,  Really love the grungy effect of all the elements.

Add some titles outlined with charcoal.

I just love the color variations!!!

Travel Far and Wide

February challenge mood board at Mixed Media & Art
pink, glitter, and a touch of blue.

I have a total fascination with eyes, love eyes when i draw portraits if the eyes aren't right it won't look anything like who you are drawing.  I started by drawing my eye with pink and blue eyeshadow.  Next paint compass eyepiece (available on my etsy store) with turquoise and deep waters alchemy paints.  I painted on embossing liquid in a grungy effect embossed with stampendous embossing enamel- taupe.
Glue onto page paint gel medium around outside and sprinkle on art stones and mini art stones.

Add some color around outside, love how the spray soaks into art stones. I used Lindy's Autumn Maple Crimson, Treasure Island Aqua, Tainted Love Teal and Merci Beaucoup Mint.

Love how the color puddles around the art stones and get those lovely dark edges.

Stamp randomly around compass with texture stamps.  Emboss the eyepiece portion of Compass Eyepiece  next add some shadows with black paint around eyepiece and compass.

Texture stamps adding more layers, layers and layers and more layers. Love me some layers.

Add some fishing line around eye and eyepiece.  Paint fishing line white, add some gel medium along fishing line sprinkle on glitter and microbeads and sparks.

Splatter around compass with gold, black, and white acrylic paint.
Add a title.

Outline title with charcoal.

Embrace the Unknown

This art journal page is for a challenge at Words & Paintery here is the mood board
My page came together super quick and easy and I love how it turned out, hopefully you do too.

Started by gluing old book pages onto my art journal, then a light coat of white gesso.  Once it is dry some random stamping with black archival ink.

Added my blue, pink and green colors (in muted tones) in large circles/ bubbles then hold up vertically to have color drip.  At the bottom of the page spray with water to have the color blend and spread out. I made the bubbles with a paint brush, then heat set well moving the color around to get variations in colors.

Next add highlights to the bubbles with white acrylic paint, then outline bubbles with charcoal.  I also added a drop shadow on bubbles.  I love how this background turned out!!!

Close up of bubbles with highlights and shadows.

The pictures with wire frames looks really complicated but in fact not so much.  I cut vintage photo in 1" circles and glued onto the page. Next wrapped wire in circle frame (make larger than picture) glue around photo I used the 3-D gel to adhere them to the page.

Next add a fishing line frame on inside of wire frame, paint the fishing line black.  Now the magic add micro beads (black & white) around frames adhere with gel medium.  I also added some larger licorice beads- just a few.  Once everything was dry I painted some black berry alchemy paint around outside in random spots then spritz with water so the color bleeds into and around microbeads.

Next I covered the photos and splattered with gesso, and some of the blue color used for bubbles.

This photo angle is super fun.

Add a title and outline with charcoal, I like the lines to extend pass journaling strip.  I also love how the stamping is visible underneath bubbles.

Here you can see puddle of colors at the bottom of the page and the drop shadow I added underneath.

Love these circle frames.  I worked last weekend and I got 7 pages done that i can reveal over the next week, I was super excited share this one with you.

Rainbow Lips

The challenge over at 13arts is rainbow colors here is the mood board
Super bright colors, not usually in my wheel house.

I started with covering my journal page with old book pages then coated with a thin layer of white gesso.  Stamped around the outside edge with texture stamps and black archival ink.

Painted the checker pattern with green (Dina Wakley Heavy Body Paint)
Drew on some lips and painted with acrylic paint.

The lips once they have been shaded and drips added.

Finishing touches included adding starburst with a stencil and acrylic paint.  I painted the starburst so it looks like a rainbow blending the colors between transitions.  Next add journaling strips and color around outside with charcoal.  Next i shaped wire into speaker bubbles like in comics- love this part.  I wanted the wire to pop more so I painted the speaker bubbles with black acrylic paint.

This journal page went really quickly and was actually super easy to pull together. It is super bright without a ton of embellishments definitely not my normal page but it works.

Scrap Later.

Bloom where you are Planted

For February challenge at Studio Shock is the colors of Love
Today i followed the video tutorial from Aga Baraniak, I love this tutorial and final layout.  Here is my take

I started with clear gesso on entire page, added texture with light modeling paste and a stencil. Added color with Lindy's Treasure Island Aqua and Autumn Maple Crimson, and Alchemy Black Berry Paint.  Spritz with water to move color around, you can see all that lovely texture once color has been added.  Cluster together a photo with tags and paper blocks/ circles.

Add some stamping and the super fun wire!!!

Here I have painted the exposed cardboard with white acrylic and splattered some more color around photo-
Lindy's Autumn Maple Crimson, and Alchemy Opal green violet.

The finished layout.  Added some harlequin texture with stencil and archival ink, some black micro beads along wire, and in cardboard.  I adhered bubbles onto teal pattern paper and cut out then glued onto layout.  To highlight draw around with black charcoal, smug with a dry paintbrush.  Add title.

Love how this one turned out!!! Grungy, bold and funky.  Going to create another page right now with the same techniques .
