Finally....

I am in Camerose Alberta at a four day retreat and FINALLY i get to work on the project that has been in my head for months.  Here it is mixed media album using 7 dots fortune teller paperline, this paperline is FANTASTIC.

Page 1

I love how this turned out.  Now i know there isn't a tonne of paper on the page, I was experimenting on using my new stencils.  So these are two stencils i have designed and cut with my silhouette.

I started with a starburst stencil and inked with mustard seed distress ink, but i didn't ink right to the edge so it would have a faded edge.  Next ink just the center with vintage photo distress ink.

Next mix mica powder- rust with light modelling paste.  I really like light modelling paste i find it works better with stencils i get crisper lines.  Now this is my favorite stencil I have wanted an eyeball for ever, so i designed one.  I am going to toot my own horn it looks FAB!
I love how the dots create detail and depth.

Final touches, add lindy's turquoise and treasure island aqua around eyeball.  I added scallop banners cut from 7 dots fortune teller added a saying, rub on and sewing.  TA DA page 1 of album done.












Now for page 3

I know it is hard to see, i did a rough trace of a flower with pencil onto tracing paper. Image transfer onto base page with gel medium, I pulled off while it was still damp so i got the pencil lines and some white residue left behind.  This was a let's do it and see what happens and it worked.

I did a rough coloring around edges with water soluble wax pastel.  Just brought these i will be buying more. Next use water and a paint brush to create a water color effect.

This is the final look, I used a water color pencil dipped in water to outline and add details.  Stamped with some texture stamps and used a stencil for the script (another stencil designed and cut by me toot toot)

Next i decorated 6 mini folders with 7 dots fortune teller paper.  Add a pattern paper cover then sewed around- messy sewing i wanted to look random not perfect.  I pre cut texture and banner shape with my silhouette.  (love my silhouette and corel draw)  Add paper clip, chipboard star and words.  These were fun to make.

Here it is all pulled together.  Inside i glued some vintage pictures of gyspies.  Now if i wasn't making this a kit i would put in some old family photos then a little journaling inside.

FINNAGAN

So i haven't worked on any pages in awhile and here is the reason

Meet Finn the newest member of our family, he is a two month old corgi who doesn't sleep through the night.  That means i don't sleep through the night, so not much is getting done after dinner time.  No sleep and potty training make for a tired momma.

I am working on a new kit using Fortune Teller paper pack from 7 dots- LOVE 7 Dots Studio.  They have FAB paper distress, grunge muted colors all my favorites.  I am really excited about this new kits, but right now i am cutting paper elements, designed new chipboard and trying some thing new- Custom stencils.  Once all the designing, cutting and prep is done the creativity can begin.  I can tell you its includes, tea stained paper, faux leather, mixed media, journalling, and watercolors.

Autumn Day

Completed another challenge for anything but cute- this month's theme is An Autumn Day.  Now this is what we woke up to on Thanksgiving morning October 9

Yep thats a lot of snow now some of it has melted but there is still snow on the ground- and apparently there is more on the way.  Welcome to Northern Alberta Ladies.

This page is all about splatter splatter and more splatter.  I used orange, greens and pinks.

I started by layering pattern paper together for a background.

Next I tucked edges I cut with my silhouette into the paper layers.

I mixed poinsetta red gold magical with modeling paste, applied through a stencil along edges and jutted out onto main page.

Next i mixed autumn maple crimson with water and splattered onto page along texture.

I repeated steps with red hot poker orange, and rusty lantern lime until satisfied with the color combination.  Next sprinkle shabby white embossing enamel along edge.  Heat from bottom so it doesn't blow off the page.

Add photo clusters made with paper blocks, pre cut elements and paper texture.  Before I added the photo cluster I splattered black acrylic paint along edges.

Painted some chipboard pieces with antique white acrylic paint and glued onto layout.

Added color onto photo cluster with magicals.

Add some thread- I like how it has a organic feel.

Had a happy moment today when i opened Anything but Cute blog to see i received runner up for last months challenge- Friendship for this layout.  Thank you ladies.

Magical Fantasy

The monthly challenge at Mixed Media World is Magical/ Fantasy I got this one done just in the nick of time.  The final product didn't end of where i thought it would be sometimes that is a good thing.
Here we go...

I wanted it to look like a fairy circus, its got lots of texture, lots of layers, and lots of different mixed media products.

I started with layers blocks of pattern paper onto background, also layered some pre cut plaques.

Next i brushed on white gesso through a stencil, then swipes some large chunk gesso with a palette knife.  To add some more texture to gesso, i ran a plastic comb through large chunks of gesso.

Next splatter on white gesso, then pink color spray. (Lindy's Bucket of Blood Red)

Dry.

Mix blue gold opal alchemy paint with water and splatter on.  Mixed white acrylic paint with white gesso and applied through harlequin stencil.

Painted the harlequin with black acrylic paint, and Lindy's shabby turbine teal mixed with water.  Now i wanted some larger blocks of color, so I mixed Lindy's Autumn maple crimson with water and blotting around harlequin pattern.

Its not in the picture but i also added some random stamping on background.

Made my photo cluster, pattern paper blocks and some pre cut banners and plaques.  Ink around pre cut shapes.

I added some more color (same colors as background) along pre cut elements with a paint brush.
Splatter some black acrylic paint.

I added some final touches with embossing powder along corner, I sprinkled on the embossing powder then heat from the bottom so the heat gun doesn't blow away enamel.


I made a nest/ mess with the twine black and white and arranged around the photo cluster.  Tucked in some pre cut texture pattern paper in between photo cluster layers.

I really like how all the splatter looks like sparkles and lighting flies. Looks very magical and fairy like.

Painted chipboard wings and acrylic paint, and while it was still wet sprinkled on embossing enamel so it sticks onto the wings.  The chipboard is to thick to heat from the underneath.

Friendship

This month FRIENDSHIP is the challenge at Anything but Cute.  I used a vintage photo of a child and a dog- what spells Friendship more than having a pet.  

This is Alex and Zeke when we first bought Zeke home- Look at that smile!!!!  Now it is three years later and he still has that smile, and Zeke is very much our second child.

Now the friendship layout.

I started by brushing on white gesso on background pattern paper.

Added modeling paste through a brick stencil.  Once modeling paste is dry spray with water.  I like to add the water before color so the color blends and bleeds easier.  Next splash with color.  Used Lindy's van Dyke Sepia, Buccaneer Bay Blue, Brushed Nickel, Pegleg Pete's Purple.  I splattered the pegleg Pete's Purple.

Dry

I cut tags, tabs, texture edges, and harlequin with my silhouette from pattern paper and vanilla cardstock.

Distress and ink paper elements. Position everything on the page along with chipboard.  At this point the chipboard and harlequin has been left plain.

I painted the harlequin with Pegleg Pete's Purple, I puddled it onto to get it dark and have slight variations in color.  You could paint before glueing down but i didn't really know what i was doing still I was doing it.

I painted the chipboard with alchemy paints- metallique steampunk copper, opal magic blue-gold, and metallique black berry.  I painted all the chipboard with opal magic blue-gold first then blended on copper and black berry in selected areas.  No rhyme or reason to where i added copper and black berry just painted.

I like how the purple turned out, which is weird i am not a purple person.  Not even sure why i bought purple lindy's spray but hey it works.

I like the contrast of white in the background from the gesso.

13 Arts Challenge- STEAMPUNK!!

That's right folks my favorite- Steampunk Challenge at 13 arts  Here is my take

LOvE this layout.  It was one of those scrapping moments, I tried the background 2 times then the 3rd time BANg it all worked.  Once i got the background the rest was easy.

I started with a pattern paper, that i painted with white gesso.  I like gesso over acrylic paint because it has a transparent effect which is what i was going for.  Next I used gel medium to adhere some old music paper, and tissue paper.  Once all that was dry i applied modeling paste through harlequin stencil.

Allow to dry.

Next i applied black gesso through a numbers/ industrial like stencil. Allow to dry.  Next apply color with Lindy's spray- treasure island, jazzy jivin purple, and van dyke sepia. First i spray some water onto the layout then add color with a paint brush, I like to add color puddles then move them around with the brush. By adding water before the color there are no harsh edges and can move the color around easier.  I don't spray on the color because i can't control where it goes. I also like to add a little splatter by tapping the brush loaded with color spray.

Next the photo cluster, instead of matting the photo I wanted a more organic cluster.  I cut out butterfly wings and created a chipboard cluster with gears, and rib cage lightbulb.  I really love how this turned out, it was a little flat until I added texture cut from pattern paper and silhouette that tucked into and behind butterfly wings and photo.

I glued all the chipboard together then painted it using alchemy paints. I wanted to have an ombre effect. The alchemy paint worked fantastic gives them a metallic finish which i think is more steampunky.
