Steampunk Travel Album

 

 

I have finished the instructions for the steampunk travel album and posted them in my etsy store.  The chipboard used is custom designs created by me, you can order the entire set needed to complete the album also on etsy for $95.00 (including shipping).  Chipboard pieces include, globe, 2 lightbulbs, goggles, gears, sundial, compass, camera, balloon, monaco, chickenwire, and porthole.  It will require 4-6 weeks for delivery (made to order).

Knuckle

this is our Zekey dog, we got him from the pound and he instantly became part of the family.  He is quite the character with very much his own personality, but man is he clumsy so my husband starting calling him knuckle.

I started with a pattern paper from prima, it was cream background with dark words.  First i colored the background with Huey mists and moved the color around on the page with baby wipes. Next i used modeling paste and fern stencil to create the background. Once modeling paste was dry i i painted with my fingers and distress paint- various greens, then to make them pop outlined with black distress paint.

Underneath the photo i added a kraft pocket to insert a tag for journaling.  Other embellishments include washi tape, brads, rub ons, and speaking bubble.  I used a white gel pen to write on the black speaker bubble.

OOPS... I did it again

 I have no idea what he did but he looks utterly adorable so it needed to be cropped!  I tried to step out of my box a little with this one, so i stamped the flowers onto cardstock with black archive ink then colored with water color markers.  It was the first time i used water color markers but they were flab, used a paintbrush with water to blend.  I also didn't use pattern paper just blank cardstock, i always use pattern paper.  I used a fern stencil and distress ink in three color to add color and interest in the background.

once i painted the flowers i fuzzy cut the flowers and leaves out, but they were super bright a little too bright for my liking so i inked the edges, back in my box.

 added a title- fun foam words from Amy Tangerine (ordered from wsquaredscrapbooking.com ) , then another out of box moment i doodled with black and white markers, i now believe i will be putting doodling in my box of tricks.  The white gel pen is another great purchase from wsquaredscrapbooking.com Uni-ball white gel impact pen.

Then back in my box with some chipboard, i inked the arrows black and added more doodling.

This one took me the longest and it was a challenge from start to finish, i kept adding more and more in an attempt to like what i created, in the end I love it.

rub a tub tub

i spent the weekend at a low key crop and managed to get 4 layouts completed.  First i used my new cell theory stencil

instead of using the stencil for the background i decided i wanted to use the stencil for the foreground.  First i created the tag (description below) and then layered the layout together.  I added journalling along the right side and used a texture stamp to add distress around picture edges.
Once the layout was completed added  the stencil around the outside edges with modelling paste (used white modeling paste, didn't tint first)

for the tag i painted with scattered straw distress paint, before it was dry i ran my palette knife through the paint to create woodgrain then allow to dry.  Once dry ink with walnut distress ink, the distress ink with settle in where you have scratched off the paint.  Wipe off the excess distress ink that is sitting on top of distress paint.  I added the same textured on the tag bottom and rub ons on the top.  Finally paper clip, title, and jouralling tag.

The water pipe pieces from prima work perfectly for this layout.

once the modelling paste dried i painted the raised bubbles with a combination of distress paint stormy sky and dylusions blue spray.  Along the bottom i painted in between the bubbles with watered down black soot distress ink, dark to light from bottom up.

Vintage and Bright

LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture of my husband, he is actually smiling, a good smile not his usual dokey smile, this is my husband in work clothes and smiling!!

I wanted to mix bright bold colors with vintage pattern paper and embellishment and IT WORKED!!

For the background i used a tim holtz stencil and created a raised image with modeling paste.  Once dried i used Mr. Huey's color mist to color background pattern paper and raised image.  I used a baby wipe to move the mist around and blend colors together.  I like translucent color mist so you can still see the paper pattern. Additional embellishments are rub ons, and fuzzy cut hot air balloons

The left side looks great but was very painful, i cut out the circle from pattern paper- very time consuming.  Added circles, gears and metal accents

Corrugated metal

so awhile back i created this tag

and thought how great would this look on large scale.  So i ordered 24"x12" cardstock and started folding, alot of folding
but it was worth it

 i folded cardstock into corrugated paper then painted with distress paint to look like eroded metal.

once i prep the canvas (cheese cloth and gesso) added the old gas pump image transfer.  My color printer prints up to 12"x19" and since i ordered large cardstock i don't have to print as many panels which makes piecing the image back together much easy.

 once corrugated cardstock is painted and dry i ripped and added to canvas to frame the gas pumps.  i glued on the corrugated but also added metal brads for another dimension.  from there the rest was easy, added espresso brown to exposed canvas and blended into corrugated and image transfer.  Added highlights of rusted metal metallic paint and black around the edges.

highlighted the words by dry brushing white over the letters.  wanted them to be visible but not to bright or they would overtake the canvas

look how you also get shadows created from the corrugated cardstock since i didn't attach edges again another dimension.

TEXTURE AND DIMENSION- my goal with every canvas.

layering chipboard

i have had an idea a couple of years ago for chipboard with intricate design and layers to add dimension, then when i started experimenting with distress paint the idea took root again.  I have always loved chipboard but distress ink soaked in too much and you didn't get a true color, arcylic paint was to thick and so on.  BUT! distress paint was perfect- holds it color and is thin and easy to apply to chipboard and paint intricate designs.  So a couple of months ago i started turning my ideas into designs, finally i can get chipboard designs that i haven't been able to find- by that i mean steampunk and vintage!!!!

 I painted the base layer with peacock distress ink, and the top two pieces with white distress ink.  It takes a couple coats of white to get a white white not a gray white.

On the base layer there are score lines to separate between pump, hose and gas pump body.  Use the score lines as guides to paint details of design.  Here the base is peacock, barn red for pump with accents of silver, and black for the hose.  Once dry, sand and ink with vintage photo distress ink.  The distress paint resists distress ink so it only colors where distress paint has been sanded off.  I wipe off with a wet paper towel to remove excess distress ink sitting on the top of distress paint.  The finished look has a super cool vintage feel.

the details for the sale is super small so i used a fine point black maker, plus since they are sanded and inked it doesn't need to be perfect
