 The creative juices have been flowing, designed some new chipboard and stencils for layouts and cards.  I ordered some paper from 13arts  some really fun papers!

I made 6- 12x12 layouts and this is by far my favorite one.

I used Lindy's magicals for background colors, some gold embossing enamel and rusty chipboard.

And now the close ups, my favorite part the rusty pipes.

I started by painting them white, then gave a light sanding and inked with Vintage Photo distress ink.  The ink settles into the sanded portion and wipes of the painted areas.

Next added some rusty colors, dark reddish brown, orange-ish brown, and a little teal color for patina.  

I love the final look, I also the negative space created by the pipes.

I used gel medium to glue onto the page.

My next favorite layout, I also love this picture.  How great is this piece of paper!! I added the red with Lindy's magicals.

Love this chipboard piece!

For these light I painted black, then lightly sanded and inked.  Added the rusty finish with reddish brown, orange-ish brown paints then covered with Mod Podge Dimensional Magic.  The Dimensional magic makes the light look enamel, like the real ones.

Just look at that SMILE and those rusty pipes.

I made the tags with pattern papers, and added stitching around, sewing on any page is always fun!

That cityscape was a couple hours worth of computer work all on its own.

I got a thing for street lights and power poles.

Boho Cards

I created some new cards with a Boho theme.  I designed some new chipboard layered skulls then decorated with paper succulents.  I used my silhouette to cut very sizes of hexagons glued them on background then drew around with a black pencil crayon.

I started with the bottom layer, and painted it black.

Paint the horns a brown tone, and the face white then glue onto the black base layer.

Next sand and ink, the ink will settle into the sanded portions and wipe off the paint.  Now looks old and worn.  I wrapped around the horn with leather cord.

Layer on paper succulents.  Some are glued on the back and some up pop dots.

Some of the skulls have macrame off the horn.  I used natural twine, knots and combed out the twine.

Camera Series #1 Accordion

 Good day all,

Still deep into winter here in Northern Alberta, one moment its -40, the next a blizzard, then +4 and melting.  That's right Alberta can have all seasons in one day- its charming....right?

I have decided to start a camera series and here is #1 Accordion.

Figuring out the accordion fold took me 2 days, 10 sheets of cardstock, and a trip to Staples for a protractor but I got there in the end.  

I made the camera box out of foamcore then covered with textured cardstock, you can't paint foamcore directly because it will warp.  I also used paper hinges to hold everything together so gluing paper on top also hide the paper hinges.  Paint the camera box with brown acrylic paint, once dry sand.

Next ink with black soot distress ink, the ink settles into the sanded portion and wipe off the excess ink.  I let that sit overnight then painted with gloss gel, I wanted it to look like varnished wood.

I made file folders for the camera box, covered with paper, inked then cut out the center for a photo.  To add flare I added pattern paper, tags, and paper die cut elements around edges of photo cut out.  Next added some painted chipboard, the key was to glue the chipboard on the paper on the inside of photo cut out so no extra height is added to the file folders and they still lie flat.

I used a paper hinge on the bottom of two file folders, one you add the photos, glue the file folders close.  Picture will be on front and back.

Once you add a photo you can't see the back of the file folder, the paper and chipboard make a fun funky frame.  I realized after my photo wasn't the best choice considering chipboard tree rings and leaves.

I designed the lens with several layers of chipboard shapes once painted and glued together BOOM camera lens.  I painted the inside of the lens dark blue then covered with dimensional mod podge once dry it looks like glass.

I made the base with foamcore rails then the chipboard supports are glued in to hold the paper accordion in place.

Next put it all together and it looks amazing!!! Very happy will it.  It is going to be baby shower gift for a friend- she told me she likes antiques.  I also distress and ink chipboard pieces makes it looks older and also hides and painting and construction imperfections.

The hinge base is glue into the rails on the base and along the side of the camera box.  The lens support are glued onto the lens base, and attached with brads then the supports are glued into the rails.

Added some brads, metal ruler, metal porthole frame around lens, metal handle, and metal coin.  I added a panel at the top of the camera box then brads along the edge.  The foamcore worked really great, the thicker material is more realistic, sturdier, and the brads stick into the foam portion; all around win.

The file folders fit in the back of the camera box, use the tabs to pull out.

Next I think will be a vintage movie camera.

Moonlight Tours

 

Moonlight Tours Steampunk Airship FINISHED!!

The Steampunk Engine is made with chipboard and the moon is made with a paper lantern with paper mache on top for sturdiness.

I used Mod Podge Dimensional Magic for the inside of the windows, gives it a great glass look.  I really wanted a curved roof but can be challenging with chipboard so I decided to use house styrofoam.  I cut the shape i wanted with a exacto knife then sanded with fine fine sandpaper.

The railings are made with 3 sheets of chipboard

glued together- this is the first time i tried this and it worked fantastic.  I also did this with the paddles.

The large gears are made with fun foam you can get a the dollar store.  I love when things move, so the gears and paddles actually turn.

I sealed all the chipboard with watered down glue, really holds everything together and helps make it water proof.  I painted with brown acrylic paint, and aged with watered down acrylic paint that i brush on then wipe off the excess.

Here it is all lit up, it didn't work like i had wanted. I wanted more of a glow all over the moon but I struggled with paint color and painted it many many times.  But I know what needs to be done in the future so i will try this again.

Christmas Vacation RV

Hello all, this project is came together super quick and I love the final result.  Eddie's RV from Christmas Vacation- A Christmas Classic.  The project isn't complete, next I will make Christmas Cards, the RV can be used each year to hold the Christmas cards you receive.

I made the RV with chipboard (my usual substrate) then add details with more chipboard, paint, dimensional magic and lights.  I love love the final result.

It really is amazing what layering chipboard and paint can create.

The wreath is made with garland pipe cleaner.

One of my favorite details is the dirty windows.

Used texture paste to create the rust and give it some dimension.

It all started with a box! I designed the RV sides and cut them with a laser engraver.  Glue the sides on the box, then shape chipboard on the front and back.

By scoring you can shape chipboard around curves and give it shape.  To hide the score marks I covered with white cardstock- make sure the paper is glued on the entire surface otherwise when you paint it bubbles appear where it isn't glued down.

Add the details- window frames, door, vents, and molding.  Once the whole RV was assembled i painted entire piece with watered down glue.  This seals everything especially the parts covered with paper, now it is ready for paint.

Next add paint, I started with white, then added blue, finally paint frames and vents with silver.

Now the fun part! Add rust.  I tinted some texture paint (raw sierra) and used a sturdy brush to apply.  I added texture around wheel wells, molding, basically where joints are located.  I also feathered out the color from the texture spots.  I used Modge Podge dimensional magic to fill in windows, when it dries it looks glass like.

To make the dirty windows, i cut ovals out of cardstock and taped onto windows.  Then I mixed a light brown paint color, and used a makeup sponge to apply to windows.  The key is have paint blended into the sponge no paint globs.

I finished the rust by adding more color, red oxide and dark brown.  The color is added in the textured areas then I spray with water to remove any paint edges. This gives the rust more life like appearance and depth.  Next add dirt on RV body, used the light brown and sponge for this too. The final touch is add mini lights and wreath.
