Three Mediums and a Stencil walked into a bar...

This month at Mixed Media Monthly Challenge Blog the challenge is Three Mediums and a Stencil

This month is sponsored by Marabu Mixed Media Products.  The have sprays, crayons, stencils, paint etc...

Here is my take- so abstract, colorful, and big shapes not my usual but sometimes it is good to work outside the lines.  I didn't even use distress ink- hell has offically frozen over.

I started with a blank journal page painted with gesso, then colored with yellow Marabu art spray along with some Lindy's and plenty of water.

Lay stencil on dry page and sponge with Marabu Mousse.  The mousse is quite funky it leaves a stucco texture finish.

I added a black outline inside bird, then sponged white acrylic paint around bird to dilute the intensity of the background.

Next cut out leaves with old encyclopedia pages glued along left side.  Color inside of bird on flowers with yellow art crayons.

Finished by coloring leaves and adding doodles.

Have Fun!

Mixed Media & Art- Time

This month at Mixed Media & Art the challenge is Time, the statement is "At this time, we suggest that you touch the natural and slightly unusual elements.  And here is the mood board...

Here is my inspiration a project created by Hilda Skerka.  I really loved the port hole and the crackle so I took that and ran.

I made a shadow box with a port hole, then an underwater scene in the port hole.  Lots of crackle paste, rust paste and alchemy paints.

I made the octopus legs with polymer clay, shape them around the outside of the port hole and make them look like they are coming from inside the port hole.  This was a little challenging to shape them, then try to keep the shape when i cook in the oven to set.

I painted them with Emerald Green and blue gold alchemy paint.  I love of alchemy paints are shinny not sparkly.

The port hole is a chipboard circle frame with bolts on top.  Cover the entire cover with white crackle paste, color with magicals guten tag teal and bratwurst brown.  I painted the frame with brown and red rust paste then a little green patina paste.  My mom actually thought this was metal, so i would say the effect was successful.

I painted chipboard seahorse with plum preserves and soft sation alchemy paint.  I do sell the seahorse on my etsy store Boozybear but i sized it smaller, if you are interested in recreating this shadow box message me for the smaller seahorse.

Behind the seahorse you can see seashells, these we created with polymer clay and a silicone mold.  I pushed them into a pile of green patina paste, to look like they were buried on the bottom of the ocean floor.  Painted with soft satin, and blue-gold alchemy paint.

Behind seashells is chipboard compass, painted with rust paste and gold paint.  In front is message in the bottle, mix gel medium and art stones then paint onto amber bottles. Paint bottles with alcohol ink then wrap with twine.

The finishinf touch is off white sisal in behind port hole.

Chipboard used includes the following all available on my etsy store BoozyBear.

Bolts- Layer the pieces together to create a 3-D nuts and bolts.

Mid Month Inspiration

Here is some mid month inspiration for Mixed Media Monthly Challenge.  So February is all about LOVE here is the mood board
LOVe, hearts, pink and reds

So not pink, red or with hearts instead my LOVE, my son Alex

Made rusty bolts with chipboard nuts and bolts on my etsy store Boozybear, layer the bolts all together.  Paint bolts with finnabair rust paste, really love how these turned out.

The background was created with lindy's sprays, layered on top is white embossed Tangle Envy Chipboard.  It gave it a look like stain glass windows.

It's hard to see but i filled in some of the rectangle shapes with glossy accents- makes it a shiny epoxy section.  The lindy's underneath kind of blend together more.

I used dark blue, turquoise and yellow lindy's, thought i did good yellow is outside of my comfort zone.  I love how Lindy's add color and shimmer but you can still see the paper pattern underneath.

In between the paper layers, and photos I added a bunch of cogs and gears, and a skeleton clock then painted them with rust paste.

I really love how this turned out, steampunk but still bright and colorful, it does my rosy cheeks boy justice.
