paper and more paper

i have tons of paper right now, paper to make kits with, paper i want to design kits with and paper i love- but i can't seem to find the time to use all this beauitful paper.  I have been viewing blogs after blogs getting ideas and making plans and yet no time.  The next project in my head is a beauitful mixed media journalling book that i am so excited to start but i don't want to start until i have a whole weekend to just sit down and create!!!  we will see what this weekend brings, i did make a paper bag album but of course forgot to take pics so i will post tonight.

another new project!!!!

yep i finished another one, well sort of i still need to cover the edges but haven't decided how yet, so as i usually do when something is bugging me i will stare at it until my brain has decided on a plan.  This project started as a way to use up the Graphic 45 film cannisters i had left from store inventory i had the idea but... i did start this project twice before i was happy with the direction i was going. 

i used the film cannister to create depth in the clock face by cutting the lid to reveal the inside, then inlaying the cannister in the clock frame that i build out of chipboard.  Prima Engraver collection and all their new metal embellishments worked perfect for this project.



one side of clock frame only has a half wall, then i created mini albums to side into the empth space. I binded the mini albums with white hockey tape because that was what i had on hand but i should have used black hockey tape.

front view, also had a few packs of Tim Holtz pulleys left from store inventory, so use it for the pendulum, just what it needed for finished look

 

inside mini- opens to reveal three pages, two with photo flips with tag insert then in the center a layout you just need to add a picture to.  there are two minis both the same idea but with a different center layout and photo flips

 

 

this one will be a kit as well but only 6 since i was just using remaining store inventory.  again i am waiting on paper, i will post once available and how to order.

where have i gone?

Every once in awhile life throws you a curve ball, this year so far has been one curve ball after another.  After i closed up shop i had boxes of unsold inventory, personal scrapbook inventory, shelving, desks, printers, scrapbook tools- big shot and dies, cinch, paper cutter etc... now all in my house taking up space.  I don't have a super small house, but i really have no storage since i don't have a basement.  NOW where to put everything??? so i have been slowing cleaning everything and finding it a home, bundling old stock into discount packages and still trying to find the time to work on new projects.  Did i mention i started a new job, so no i haven't forgot about my blog just adjusting to new schedules and work day.

I do love my new job as an admin assistant. My creative brain needed to take a holiday, and i love being the low man on the totem pole after years of management and running a business.  Here is a sneak peek.

when everything works

we all have those pages- you know the ones where you love everything!!! i have scrapbook pages i immediately put in album or even hide in a box never to see the light of day again because i hate it but dont want to throw out something i worked on for a couple hours.  But ever once in awhile EVERYTHIING WORKS and you have layout that makes your heart sing.  This one is mine

this layout has all my favorites- ripped paper then inked and i found if you start with a lighter ink (vintage photo distress ink) and ink edges plus inside edges then use a darker ink (walnut distress ink) and just ink the edges you really get a burnt edge look.  Also use a light hand when apply ink if you press to hard you get harsh lines that dont look natural at all.

 

NEXT FAVORITE- chipboard, and more chipboard i have to have chipboard on every layout i do i just dont feel a layout is done until you have added chipboard.  i love hexagons and i love how i have used the hexagons to frame the sides and overlap the photos.  i also love using two different sizes of hexagons and covering them in matching colors so they are there but dont stand out to much to take over the layout.

ALIVE AND WELL

Yes i am still here, and still kicking!!! Once i got back from Florida i spent the next couple of weeks cleaning out the shop and finding room in my home for all my scrapbooking stuff.  I did have time to go to a scrapbooking weekend where i created a recipe box, faux scale and cannisters.  I love how it turned out plus it used up some extra and old product.

i made all the 3D items out of chipboard- its all about scoring the chipboard then i could shape into round canisters and an old fashion scale.  I used a glue gun to hold it all together and not one of those cold hot gun- those do not work the glue sets before the pieces are secure.  You need to use a good old regular hot glue gun the ones that burn your fingers. I used mod podge to adhere the paper, and on the outside to seal so there are no paper edges to lift.

rediscover an old embellishment

A few years ago my sister and i started a making a scrapbook for my parents of the grandchildren so every year for Christmas i make new pages with updated photos.  This did start as a sister and me project but that only lasted one year now it is my project.  Here are a couple i made this year....

my neice and nephews.  as always my standbys in a page, layering, chipboard, metal.  What i love about this page is the smaller hexagons covered in a light colored pattern paper- the lighter paper really pops and is a great contrast again the dark background paper.  what i really love about this page is the twine i stitched around the hexagons- it adds dimension, color and texture.  Twine is nothing new but sometimes we get so into what new we forget what old and that we still love it.

TIP: when arranging hexagons make a casual arrangment not a pattern so it doesn't compete with picture for attention

more sewing but this time i used my sewing machine again adds texture and another element.  I dont worry about sewing a straight line and make multiple lines swtiching between straight and zigzag stitch.  Using a lighter thread highlights the outside edge and creates a border around the layout.  Really love the pocket watch i created using chipboard outline pocket watch embossed with stampendous silver embossing powder, then layered with prima wood clock elements i glued to outer layer on top then the clock inside.  The inside clock is smaller so you can still see the layout underneath pocket watch outline chipboard how fun is that.
