Challenge #40

September already, Alex goes back to school on Tuesday September 5 summer went way to fast.  This month's challenge at Mixed Media Monthly is Vintage
Here is the mood board

The month's sponsor is Funkie Junkie Boutique

My creation- an art journal page.  I went with a collage page using paper scrapes, rub ons, sewing, wire, thread, stencil and paint.  This a page for an album I am working on.

Before the picture was added, I stamped bird from Rubber Dance Stamps then colored with pencil crayons and fuzzy cut.  I sponged alchemy paints through a checker stencil, once dry move stencil and sponged with white paint into negative space to make a checkerboard.

Close up of bird, stitching along side of pic, I think sewing always gives a vintage feel.

I used yarn and wire to create texture I love texture.

The finished page has a side flip.

Will a mini folder and envelope.

 Inside is two kraft envelopes.

Get ready for a bunch of pictures, here is the completed album

Art Journal Continues...

Here are the next two pages for my Art Journal Album, for this project I am trying to mix art journaling with more structured pages so far I am not sure if it is working.  I am entering this page for Mixed Media Warriors- Challenge #19 Vintage and Old School.

I liked the colors and floral design on teapot.

I have a weakness for large floral print, I made a mini album with a small paper bag, then a flip flap.  So right now super structured!

Inside the flip flap I art journaled added tissure paper and pattern paper strips, cover with clear gesso.

Add some sepia acrylic paint along paper edges and outside edges, wipe off the excess with a baby wipe. Add some lindy's color- starting to look old.

Add some rub ons, fibers, alchemy paint and sewing.

Finished left side.

Finished right side.

Opened mini album.

who would know there is all that color, texture, and messiness underneath.  This is the left side of album.

This is the right side of album.  I am trying to bring in the pattern paper along with some flip flap and pull cards to make the album work as one. Hopefully I have time this weekend to keep on working maybe once it is done i will be able to tell if it works as a coherent album.

Abstract Art Journal

Hello there, its been awhile summer is busy!  We just spent the week at home on a stay-vac and it was fantastic, I have decided away holidays are for the kids but kind of hell for the adults (fighting kids, not enough sleep, driving etc...) now a stay-vac that's for the parents I got stuff done around the house and hung out in the scraproom.  Right now i am working on a art journal album, mixing art journalling with  flip and flaps.  Entering this for Challenge #57 at 13arts- Abstract Art- when i think abstract art I think free flowing, large color blocks, and no strcuture.

I started with a blank sheet of cardstock added some tissue wrap, and ripped up pattern paper. Cover the entire sheet with clear gesso, next around the edges and paper edges smear with sepia acrylic paint, wipe off excess.

Add some sparkle with Lindy's, I like to splatter on color with a paintbrush or spray nozzle then spray with water and move around page with heat gun.

Add some color dots with alchemy paints, add photo and ephemera ink around edges.  Add some rub ons.

Final page, I added some sewing around dots, along bottom and sewed on some fibers.  Around the photo i added some wire, and brads.  In the bottom corner is a flip flap, it has mini folders inside and a pull card on top.

Flip flap open.

I really like how this page ended up looking like an abstract vintage combination journal page.  Really organic looking not at all structured.

My favorite part!!!

Photo cluster, I added alchemy gold wax around picture, again everything is very organic/ hippy like!
